SLS SYDNEY 2024 BETTING PREDICTIONS
After a hectic summer packed with SLS Apex events, X Games Ventura, X Games Chiba, and of course, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the hunt for the top three spots and a straight shot to the SLS Super Crown Final intensifies as Street League returns to Sydney, Australia, and the Ken Roswell Arena on October 12-13 for the third Arena stop on the 2024 SLS Championship Tour.
At the last Arena stop in San Diego back in April, hometown hero Braden Hoban walked away with the win, ahead of Giovanni Vianna and Gustavo Ribeiro. At the season opener in Paris, the Frenchman Aurelien Giroud claimed the win in front of his home crowd. So, will the trend continue with one of the Aussies, Shane O’Neill or Tommy Fynn, on top of the podium in Sydney? Let’s look closer at our picks and predictions for SLS Sydney and see who has made it onto our list.
FAVORITES
Nyjah Huston
Odds:
TBD
Our number one pick for SLS Sydney is Nyjah Huston. Even though he won the SLS Apex 2 recently, placed third at the Olympics, and won X games Ventura earlier this summer, he hasn’t won a proper SLS event since Lake Havasu was in 2021 and is due for a win. The winningest SLS skater of all time is currently sitting just outside the top three in the rankings, and a win could very well secure his spot in the SLS Super Crown Final. There is no question he still has the skills to win.
Sora Shirai
Odds:
TBD
Sora Shirai comes in at number two for this event. He continues to put up solid results in competitions, with two third-place finishes at world skate events, a fourth place at the Paris Olympics, and gold at X Games Chiba so far this year. Sora also brings some unique tricks to the table, such as a “Frontside 180 to fakie 5-0,” and has what it takes to claim his first SLS win in Sydney.
Gustavo Ribeiro
Odds:
TBD
Rounding out our list of favorites is Gustavo Ribeiro. The 2022 Super Crown Champion is currently sitting in the number two spot on the rankings after a second-place finish at SLS Paris and a third-place finish at SLS San Diego. Like Nyjah, he is due for a win. The skills are there -he just needs to put it together, and a win in Sydney would not only be his first SLS win in two years but would also lock in his place in the 2024 SLS Super Crown Final.
SLEEPERS
Kairi Netsuke
Odds:
TBD
Kairi has kept the momentum going since his impressive SLS debut in Sydney last year, with a win at the World Skate event in Dubai back in March and a recent second-place finish at X Games Chiba behind Sora Shirai. Currently ranked number six on the SLS rankings, Kairi’s relaxed style and deep bag of tricks could very well earn him his first SLS Title in Sydney. He seems to do well in the Ken Roswell Arena and knows how to put together a high-scoring run.
Giovanni Vianna
Odds:
TBD
The Brazilian has delivered solid results since winning the Super Crown last year and is currently at the top of the rankings, ahead of Gustavo Ribeiro and Felipe Gustavo, going into Sydney. He will be looking to secure his direct shot into the 2024 Super Crown Final. With his impressive style and unique bag of tricks, Giovanni can very well walk away with the win and might offer more value than some of the bigger names.
LONGSHOT
Dashawn Jordan
Odds:
TBD
Our longshot for SLS Sydney, Dashawn Jordan, finished second last year at the Ken Roswell Arena and has a great chance to claim the top spot this year. Dashawn is currently ranked 17th on the SLS rankings and is aiming to secure his invite for the Super Crown Final World Championship in December. This year’s course features a couple of rails where we might see Dashawn’s signature boardslide up the rail, which usually scores well, so backing Dashawn could lead to a nice payday.
