2023 WST ROME RESULTS
The 2023 WST (World Skate Tour) Olympic Qualifying event in Rome is after a full week of skating over and in the men’s event Nyjah Huston walked away with the win ahead of Sora Shirai in second and Kelvin Hoefler in third.
Nyjah set the bar already on his first run attempt scoring a 90.00 putting the other skaters under pressure. He then followed it up with a switch heel to frontside tailslide for 92.55 points and a nollie heel to backside tailslide coming out fakie for 93.96 points in the best trick section.
“It was a hard comeback because that was my first serious injury ever. I definitely didn’t picture that I’d be in this position right now. It was a ton of hard work, and I’ve been hungry for a win. We got one! USA, let's go!” Said Nyjah “It’s a momentum thing. You get a good first run down, and that helps you carry that momentum through the contest. I was feeling confident out there. We made it happen!”
In the Women’s event, Akama Liz who recently won the SLS Select series at the Primitive Park came out on top after a hard battle with Chloe Covell. Yumeka Oda rounded out the podium in third place.
“I’m very happy,” said Akama “To be honest I didn’t think I was going to win and the last trick I didn’t even practice, so I’m actually a bit surprised right now”
Rayssa Leal who has been more or less unbeatable for over a year came in fourth. Not bad considering some uncharacteristic falls in her run attempts and taking a heavy slam on her second trick attempt.
