2023 SLS TOKYO RESULTS
The second stop of the 2023 SLS Championship Tour went down on August 12 at a sold-out Ariake Arena in Tokyo and was a significant milestone as the first-ever Street League competition held in Japan and Asia.
In the men’s final hometown hero and our top pick, Yuto Horigome claimed the win after landing the “Yutornado” a nollie backside 270 to noseslide 270 out (or Helipop to noseslide 270 out if you will) on his third best-trick attempt.
“I’m just happy that in Japan’s first SLS, I was able to skate so well in front of all my fans, family, and friends,” Horigome said. “Japan’s skateboarding scene is still young, so I think the world's best competition coming here will help it really get going,”
Joining Yuto on the podium was fellow Japanese skater Daiki Ikeda who replaced an injured Gustavo Ribeiro in second and Nyjah Huston in third.
“I felt really good on my board. A contest like this is good for me, to get that confidence back, to feel 100% on the board again,” Huston said. “It’s always good battling with (Horigome), he definitely is pushing me to progress my skating, I feel like he does that to everyone.”
In the women’s final Chloe Covell clinched the win on her last best-trick attempt with a huge switch flip down the big stairs.
"I'm just going to keep practicing as hard as I can, getting new tricks down and mastering the ones I'm learning at the moment," Covell said. "I'm super excited to hopefully be going to Paris, It will be great if I qualify."
