2023 MARGARET RIVER PRO RESULTS

Gabriel Medina is back in the race for the WSL Final at Lower Trestles in September. The three-time world champion has won the Margaret River Pro for the first time. Medina the first goofy-footer to win the event since 1990 jumps up to No. 7 on the WSL rankings putting him in serious contention for the WSL Final Five.

In the final Medina was up against Griffin Colapinto and even though Colapinto took the lead at the beginning of the heat with an 8.17 Medina answered back with an 8.00, followed by a near-perfect 9.50, leaving Colapinto unable to find a backup score to his 8.17 for the remainder of the heat.

After the event, Medina said “I was working really hard for this one. I’ve been surfing a lot, I’ve been working in the gym and I was just trying to be in the moment. I’ve been coming here for over 10 years and finally, I got the win. This wave challenged me a lot and I was really concentrating before coming here, especially after a slow start to the year.”

In the women's final, Carissa Moore claimed her third Margaret River Pro title, beating Tyler Wright, who was looking to claim back-to-back victories after winning at Bells a few weeks ago. The low-scoring final was Moore's second CT win of the season and her 27th overall.

“It feels amazing,”

“It’s been nine years since the last time I won this event, and I was beginning to think I couldn’t do it again,” Moore told the WSL broadcast.

Earlier in the event, 11-time world champion Kelly Slater was cut from the second half of the world tour along with 11 men and six women. However, Slater was later granted a wildcard for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, keeping the goat's hopes of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics alive.
