2023 SURF CITY EL SALVADOR PRO RESULTS
The 2023 Surf City El Salvador Pro is a wrap and just like last year, Filipe Toledo was up against Griffin Colapinto in the Final. After a slow start from both surfers partly due to somewhat mediocre conditions Toldo put down a 9.00 with 11 minutes left on the clock which he then followed up with an 8.33. Griffin tried to answer and took to the air with a big frontside 3 but could not stick the landing.
The win was Toledo’s 14th Championship Tour win and moves him into the No. 2 spot on the WSL rankings just behind Griffin Colapinto who hangs on to the yellow leader jersey going into the Vivo Rio Pro.
Toledo who was battling a back injury told the WSL broadcast afterward “I was like Griff common give me a break, we’ve been meeting every finals you know, it’s been, it’s been fun and yeah I was just super focused and just super concentrated on what I was doing and what I wanted to do.”
“Believe it or not, it wasn’t painful to surf but it was so painful to walk and then paddle whenever I had to arch my back, I just thank God and the WSL and the doctors here, you know, they did a really good job of taking care of me. They gave me some medicine to help me out with the pain.”
In the women’s Final Caroline Marks claimed her first Championship Tour win since the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic back in 2021 after beating Tyler Wright in the Final.
“This time last year was my first event back after one of the hardest times of my life, so I’m emotional,”
“I’ve been super inspired by the younger girls and all the new energy on Tour. It’s been really cool. I haven’t won a CT since 2021, so I’m super stoked. This is the best feeling ever.” Marks told the WSL broadcast.
