DEW TOUR DES MOINES RESULTS AND RECAP

DEW TOUR DES MOINES RESULTS AND RECAP

After a weekend full of amazing skateboarding, nerves, upsets, sportsmanship and bad weather the 2021 Dew Tour, Des Moines is a wrap, here is what went down:

MEN’S PARK

With this event being the last chance to qualify for the Olympics there was a lot at stake, especially for team USA with six skaters fighting for that last ticket to the Olympics.

After an act of sportsmanship by Brazilians Pedro Barros, Luiz Francisco, and Pedro Quintas who threw away their semi-final runs, so as to not interfere with anyone's chances to qualify. The final turned out to be an almost all American affair with seven skaters from the US and Swede Oskar (Oski) Rozenberg as the odd man out.

In the final Rozenberg put down an amazing second run and was in the lead until Zion Wright, who had been chasing Rozenberg throughout the contest, threw down an unbelievable fourth and final run that had everything from 540s over the island to a massive heelflip indy to take the win and the last spot on the US Olympic team.

WOMEN’S PARK

In the women’s final Japan’s Sakura Yosozumi landed a 540 in her fourth and final run to take the win ahead of fan-favorite Sky Brown of Great Britain and Japanese teammate Misugo Okamoto.

American Jordyn Barratt (8th in the final) and Kokona Hiraki (5th in the final) also secured spots on their respective Olympic teams.

WOMEN’S STREET

In the women’s street final Brazil’s Pamela Rosa and Rayssa Leal showed why they are ranked one and two in the World Skate rankings, and in the end, it was defending champion Pamela Rosa that took the win ahead of Leal, with Roos Zwetsloot from the Netherlands rounding up the podium.

MEN’S STREET

No big surprises in the men’s street competition with American Nyjah Huston taking first ahead of Japan’s Yuto Horigome and France’s Aurelien Giraud third. Aurelien has been on a tear all spring and is more and more looking like a potential value bet for the Olympics.
