MARGARET RIVER PRO RESULTS AND RECAP

MARGARET RIVER PRO RESULTS AND RECAP

In the men’s finals, Filipe Toledo put on a rail-surfing masterclass to defeat South Africa’s Jordy Smith by 17.40 to 14.23. This was the Brazilians first CT win since the 2019 Oi Rio Pro and propels Toledo from eighth up to third on the WSL (World Surf League) Leaderboard, this means that Brazil now occupies the top three spots of the leaderboard with Medina still wearing the Yellow Jersey.

In the women’s Tatiana Weston-Webb took her first CT win of 2021 after beating seven-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore by 16.23 to 15.00.

On her way to the final Weston-Webb beat Australia’s Bronte Macauly, who surfed the semi-final following the sudden death of her brother Jack over the weekend. Despite the family tragedy, the result is Macauly’s best at Margaret River, which is just down the coast from her home in Gracetown.

"This win is for the Macaulay family," said Weston-Webb.

"I came up against Bronte earlier today and seeing her show up for her heat was so brave."

"I can't imagine what she has been going through."

"They are an amazing family with so much love and are such a big part of surfing here in the West and my condolences are with them."
