RIP CURL NEWCASTLE CUP RESULTS AND RECAP

After a few months of being on hold the WSL (World Surf League) 2021 Championship Tour is back, and the second stop of the CT at Merewether Beach, Newcastle didn’t disappoint. The event saw number one seeds John John Florence and Taylor Wright upset early, and a game-changing Air reverse by Carissa Moore in the quarter-finals. Moore then went on to score an event topping 17.74 heat total in the semifinals and dominated the final against tour rookie Isabella Nichols.

The men’s final was an all-out Brazilian affair between Italo Ferreira and Gabriel Medina and when the dust had settled it was Italo Ferreira that walked away with the win.

Both Moore and Ferreira now wear the yellow leader jersey heading into the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic.
