After an amazing start of the 2022 WSL Championship Tour in Hawaii, where Kelly Slater showed that age is just a number winning the Billabong Pro Pipeline and the Haleiwa local Barron Mamiya taking the win at Sunset. The tour now moves on to Portugal and the MEO Pro. The waiting period opens on March 3 and runs through March 13.

After a disappointing start of the WCT season with 5th place at Pipe and 17th place at Sunset, Florence is looking to redeem himself in Portugal.
The poor season start aside, the Hawaiian has shown that he is back to form after a few injury-riddled years with wins at the Haleiwa Challenger and the VANS Tripple Crown just before the 2022 WCT start. Florence is also no stranger to winning in Portugal having won the event in 2016.

Even though the 2019 WSL World Champion, has just like Florence had a weak start to the WCT season with 9th at Pipe and 17th at Sunset, he is still one of the favorites, having won this event back to back in 2019 and 2018.
