SLS SYDNEY BETTING PREDICTIONS
The SLS Championship Tour is heading to Australia for the third and final stop before the Super Crown Final. SLS Sydney gets underway at the Ken Rosewall Arena on October 6 with the SLS Select Series followed by the SLS Championship Tour on October 7.
SLS Tokyo turned out just like we predicted, Yuto Horigome proved to be unstoppable on home turf. Will we witness another hometown hero win in Sydney? That Shane O’Neill has the skills to succeed there is no question, but can he hold it together? If he can get off to a good start with a competitive score in the run section and build some momentum it might just carry him through the knockout rounds into the Final. Once there, anything is possible.
If Shane O’Neill is our long shot, who has made it on the list of favorites? Let’s take a closer look at our picks and predictions for SLS Sydney.
FAVORITES
Nyjah Huston
Odds:
TBA
Our number one pick for the third stop on the 2023 SLS Championship Tour is Nyjah Huston. We have mentioned before that it is not a question of if but when Nyjah will win another SLS event. With two third-place finishes so far, he is due for a win, and coming fresh off a win in Lausanne at the World Skate Olympic Qualifying event, he has the momentum going.
SLS Sydney is also the final stop and last chance to earn a direct ticket to the Super Crown Final, and you can bet that Nyjah is not planning on going through the LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) to reach the Super Crown Final.
Yuto Horigome
Odds:
TBA
Yuto Horigome comes in at number two for this event, switching places with Nyjah from our SLS Tokyo predictions. Yuto is having quite the season, winning four out of seven events so far, but with his ticket for the SLS Super Crown Final already in the bag, we don’t think he will be able to match Nyjah, who will come out guns blazing. However, with the skills and talent to win any event, it’s impossible to overlook Yuto as a potential winner in Sydney.
Gustavo Ribeiro
Odds:
TBA
Rounding out our list of favorites is Gustavo Ribeiro. The defending Super Crown Champion has been struggling a bit all season and is yet to reach his normal level, where he can take it to Yuto and Nyjah and give them a run for their money. Is he trying too hard? Maybe. Sooner or later, he will snap out of it, and we will see him back on the podium. In our opinion, Gustavo is the only skater currently who is on the cusp of matching Nyjah and Yuto in both technical skill and consistency. Ribeiro for the win? An excellent chance.
SLEEPERS
Vincent MIlou
Odds:
TBA
The Frenchman has been fighting his way back after breaking his foot earlier this year and seems to be fully recovered. He missed the finals in Tokyo with just 0.6 points. Vincent has a third-place finish from back in 2019 at SLS Los Angeles as his best Street League result so far. Will that change on October 7? He knows how to put together a run that scores well, and he has the individual tricks, so it is not impossible.
Lucas Rabelo
Odds:
TBA
Lucas Rabelo, just like Vincent Milou, fought his way back from an injury sustained last year. SLS Sydney will be Rabelo’s first Street League event in almost two years. But don’t forget that the last time we saw the Brazilian at an SLS event, he came in second just behind Jagger Eaton at the 2021 SLS Super Crown Final. So the skills are there; the question is just if he is completely back to peak form. If he is, backing Rabelo could lead to a nice payout.
LONGSHOT
Shane O'Neill
Odds:
TBA
We can’t talk about SLS Sydney picks and predictions without bringing up hometown hero Shane O’Neill (even though he is from Melbourne). As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, he definitely has the skills. Let’s not forget that he won last year's X games, so don’t count out one of the best technical skaters in the world (if not the best).
