
BMX
HISTORY
BMX started in in the early 1970s when children in southern California began racing their bikes on dirt tracks, imitating their motocross heroes. By the mid 1970s manufacturers began creating bikes designed especially for the sport.
In the early 1980s BMX Freestyle began to emerge when BMX racers started performing airborne tricks on their bikes at competitions. Bob Haro the founder of Haro Bikes is popularly known as “The Godfather of Freestyle”.
The sport has grown from grassroots to a mainstream sport, and is since 1993 a part of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) with World Championships held annually.
